Very cool February 7, 2007 Lawrence Washington 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
this is a great product the edge was a little dull when it came but i sharped it and now it is sharp as a knife. The saw in handle is tough and has cut easily through every so far. good combo if you go hunting or camping.
gerber combo ax II February 21, 2009 Donald M. Tidd (A cave up in the hills) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
A very well made ax and saw combo, ax head is heavy enough to split good size pieces of wood or fell a tree. Saw will do up to 6 in branches easily. Great addition to any camping outfit.
Solid little axe August 18, 2008 Duckweed5 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a tough little axe for the size. I've been very happy with Gerber products although they don't come cheap. The only disadvantage to this axe is that it pretty light weight so it is difficult to split wood. But for chopping up wood for a campfire it is fine.
The saw that comes in the handle cuts very well but it so too short to be very effective.
Solid combo for hiking or camping January 18, 2009 Misko Waagosh (MN, USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I found the hatchet to be a good size for recreational use, wouldn't be the best for downing large trees because of its size, but one should assume that even prior to purchasing. For it's intended use, downing small trees, knocking off limbs it works great. The finish, which appears to be a gray paint does come off but that's expected. I did split some large logs with this axe and it worked OK, I had to bang it on a hard surface a few times, but as I said before, one should assume this with an axe/hatchet this size.
The saw in the handle works great as well, it's a bit short, but probably about as big as it can be in that handle length. Could be used for making cleaner cuts, notching, etc...
Overall this is a great addition to anyone's gear if they are going to be in the woods for an extended time. It is very light for what it is. It would be great in emergencies, and using the saw and hatchet in conjunction, would allow someone to down just about anything given enough time. Needless to say, I won't be camping without this tool anytime soon.
Great Little Axe November 6, 2008 G (Houston, TX) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a solid well balanced hatchet. You can easily cut down trees up to four inches or so. The saw is a nice addition but it will come loose from the axe handle if you really get into your cutting.
This item is much more useful than the cheap camp axes sold at most retail stores.
